Curriculum Vitae
Leontien obtained her Bachelor of Applied Science at the Hogeschool van Utrecht in 2005 after finishing her internship at Solvay Pharmaceuticals in Weesp studying GPCRs. She continued this line of research at the lab of Martine Smit at the VU where she studied chemokine receptors. In 2009 she moved to the lab of Renske Steenbergen at VUmc to research HPV transformation in human primary keratinocytes. In 2015 she worked for several years at Imperial College London to work with IPSCs to develop an AAV gene therapy for CDKL5 disorder in the lab of Nicholas Mazarakis as well research into Beta-Cell dysfunction in diabetes using CRISPR in the lab of Jorge Ferrer. In 2020 she returned to Amsterdam UMC to start working in the Exosome Research Group where she focuses on EV biogenesis as well as EV biomarker and EV delivery research for FTD.
