Research focus miRNA biomarkers miRNA biogenesis in EVs small RNA sequencing QMS system development
Curriculum vitae Nils Groenewegen finished his secondary vocational education in Biology and Medical laboratory science at the ROC Leiden in 2010. He then started his Bachelor of applied science at the University of Applied Sciences Leiden. He joined the Exosomes Research Group (ERG) in 2013 for his graduation internship, focusing on the identification and detection of RNA biomarkers for monitoring classical Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
After graduation he continued this work in the ERG group as a Research Technician. He started more miRNA biomarker studies for diseases like SLE, kidney cancer and colon cancer. Besides the biomarker field he expanded his work with fundamental research on miRNA biogenesis. Nils has been a part of Exbiome B.V. since 2017. This startup company focusses on the development of EV-miRNA biomarker discovery, validation and clinical implementation. Also the development of a QMS system was key in this work.
Lately Nils specialized more into small RNA sequencing of EVs from various patient groups for biomarker discovery.
